February, 2008

Hello:

My name is Raeann and I welcome you to participate at Calico Ghost Town in Calico’s Art of the West Show, October 31st, November 1st, and 2nd, 2008. There are three things that I hold dear to my heart; art, Calico and the desert. This is an opportunity to communicate those with you. This is the second year for this show and I am really excited to share Calico Ghost Town with everyone. Our numbers were small last year due to the massive fires in the area. Those, thankfully, are behind us and we are gearing up to give artists a great time. Daryl Schendel, owner of Calico Woodworks, and I have worked hard to provide you with an even better venue than we did last year.

Calico Ghost Town has much to offer in way of conveniences: camp grounds, cabins, RV parking with full hookups and even a bunkhouse. Please check the Calico website, www.calicotown.com., for more information on camping and reservations. For those who prefer motels, Barstow has many to choose from.

We ask that participants arrive late Thursday afternoon or early evening; no vehicles are allowed in Calico from 9a.m. to 5p.m., so any unloading will be done around those hours.

There will be a welcome get-together starting at 6:30p.m., Thursday evening, for you to meet us and get to know the great people that work at Calico. If you have any questions please call 1.760.254.3050, and I will be able to answer any questions during business hours seven days a week or call 1.760.390.4942, after hours and I will help you then.

Those who live in this area know of the beauty and history that is hidden in the desert and I hope you are able to share in this experience. You might want to stay a few extra days to take in all that the desert has to offer.

Sincerely,

Raeann Galentine

Calico’s Art of the West

Statement of Purpose

The aim of Calico’s Art of the West is to promote the understanding of Calico as a ‘Boomtown’, and the ancient history of the surrounding area as a vital part of American history for present and future generations. Boomtowns had an immense impact on the settling of the west, especially in inhospitable areas such as the Hi-desert.

Calico celebrates the determination, achievements and dreams, those realized and those broken, of those who came before us; the special ones, those that saw the beauty of the desert and Calico hills and stayed on after the ‘boom’ was over. Through Calico’s Art of the West, Calico wishes to pass this gift of the desert on to you.
